Entice Butterflies into Your Garden

You rarely see butterflies in suburbia. Why is that? Are we just too busy to see them, or do the butterflies just not like living near people?

It’s a matter of habitat. The typical manicured lawn with grass in the parkway, bushed beneath the windows, and the occasional vegetable garden in the back yard is just not a good place for butterflies to hang out. But, if you were to grow a woodland garden populated with a variety of native plants that flower throughout the growing season, you would attract butterflies from miles around.

Where would the butterflies come from? How would they know to come looking for your garden? Though they seem delicate and ephemeral, butterflies are actually tough little critters. The monarch, for example, winters in Mexico, and summers in the Plains states, as far North as Minnesota. They can even migrate to Canada. If you grow enough of the right stuff, they will come.

Choose a plot for your woodland garden. A good

Broken: Book Excerpt

Prologue

October 1994

There was a sharp rap on the door, followed by a muffled but unmistakable command from a voice outside in the hallway.

“We want the white guy, just the white guy. We know he’s in there. He comes out now and there’s no trouble for anyone later.”

I was the “white guy.” I knew in that instant that my family’s desperate search to track me down had ended at this decayed two-story apartment in a violent pocket of Atlanta’s inner city. Terrified, I rushed around the room, trying to warn the other crack heads to sit still and keep quiet.

“Don’t panic,” I whispered. “They’ll go away.” But nobody was listening because everybody was as high and as scared as I was. We bumped into one another as we tried to find a way out, but there was nowhere to go, nowhere to hide. We were like wild animals trapped by a wind-whipped forest fire.

Who was out there

A Heck of a Job: a Compassionate President, With a Bird’s-eye View

The New York Times, Aug. 4, 2007: President Bush got a bird’s-eye view Saturday of what remained of a highway bridge that collapsed last Wednesday over the Mississippi River, and planned to later tour the site on foot . . . “[T]he people there are decent and resilient, and they will get through these painful hours.”

The New York Times, Aug. 5, 2007: Mr. Bush took a 10-minute helicopter tour of the wreckage, where he could see the remains of a school bus, a truck and other vehicles . . . ” Our message to the Twin Cities is we want to get this bridge rebuilt as quick as possible,” the president said.

[Now, imagine if Bush handled the disaster in Minneapolis in the same way he handled Hurricane Katrina and the aftermath of that tragedy . . . ]

Six Months Later: President Bush flew over the Twin Cities in Air Force One and, looking down from 20,000 feet, said the bridge reconstruction looked “pretty good,” but was

BJJ in My Eyes November 2009 – Achieving a BJJ Black Belt, and the Responsibilities You Must Accept with it!! Part 3

The last two months have given me an opportunity to not just reflect and write about Black belt responsibilities, but the whole responsibility that testsyour humility, your mental restructuring, your daily attitude, your mentality as an athlete and martial artist, your grace with other students, emotional maturity, and overall the whole responsibility while pursuing the trail of the goal to BJJ Black belt.

Responsibility

This does not come with a Black belt.  This is a self charged responsibility.  This originates at white belt, and evolves at the blue and purple belt levels.  The brown belt is the maturation process of research, and to understand and accept your leadership roles that are growing.  Or should be growing.

I have got to catch up a lot with some of my coaches

Down the Stretch They Come

As the National Football League enters the final quarter of its regular season, the contenders for championships have been distilled from the mash of 32 teams. The fans of the dregs must come to grips with their fate. Their only solace is to check out the college bowl games to see whom their teams might draft in April.

American Football Conference
East Division: New England has stumbled the past two weeks but still leads the division by one game over the Jets and Dolphins. The Patriots split the meetings with both contenders so their game at Buffalo will weigh heavily when the tie-breakers are applied. A loss to the Bills would give Miami the tie-breaking advantage over New England. The Jets could easily make up ground versus the putrid Buccaneers, injury-riddled Falcons then probably complacent Colts. This race looks to go down to the final game of the regular season.

North Division: Only four losses to close out the regular season would prevent

Raising Turkeys – 4 Reasons Why You Should Start To Raise Turkeys

Turkeys have been around for a long time. Turkey history actually starts millions of years ago. Their fossils have been found in Pleistocene deposits which means that they have been around more than twelve thousand years and their predecessors go back 50 to 60 million years to the Eocene period. Since the modern domesticated turkey is a descendant of the Wild Turkey, it is surmised that ancient Mesoamericans had chosen to domesticate this species rather than the Ocellated Turkey which is found in far southern Mexico.

Turkeys require most of their care and attention during the first couple months. After this time they become much easier to care for. Turkeys are friendly and curious by nature. There are many reasons to raise turkeys.

1) Turkeys as food

Turkeys are traditionally eaten as the main course of large feasts at Christmas in much of the world, as well as Thanksgiving in the United States and Canada, though

A Short History of Atlanta Falcons

Atlanta Falcons is an American football team based in Atlanta – Georgia. It is a member of NFC South (National Football Conference). This team joined the NFL (National Football League) in 1965. The Falcons are well-known for its record of 275-400-6 and division championship in the 1980, 1998 and 2004. They have made only one appearance in the Super Bowl in 1999.

After the construction of Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium, the city thought of pursuing a spot on the professional football scene. The NFL was coincidentally looking to expand its fan base activities in the South and to also get a franchise. On 30 June 1965, the Atlanta Falcons were envisioned. Rankin M. Smith Sr. who was an executive vice president of Life Insurance Company of Georgia was granted ownership by NFL Commissioner, Pete Rozelle. The name Falcons was suggested by a high school teacher of Georgia, Julia Elliot in a contest held in 1965. Tommy Nobis from the University of Texas was

Defining Weekend in Major League Baseball!

The Minnesota Twins have rebounded from an atrocious start and are now positioned for a serious run at the wild card spot. Tonight, they welcome the World Champion Chicago White Sox for a crucial three game set that may have them sitting in the penthouse come Sunday night.

While all this is going on in the Twin Cities, the Boston Red Sox will host Johnny Damon and his teammates for an unusual 5-game weekend tilt. The Red Sox must make a move this weekend or they are in serious jeopardy of being on the outside looking in come October.

The White Sox are staring at a brutal 9-game stretch as they leave Minnesota on Sunday and head straight to Motown, then back to the South Side for another three against the Twinkies! If you ask me, now’s the time to take advantage of all the online sports betting out there.

Minnesota will play 22 of their remaining 42 games against teams above .500 while the White Sox, 25 of 42, and the Red Sox have the toughest
